So it's been a crazy few days... I went into surgery yesterday for a herniated disc that was compressing my nerves in the L5 S1 region and had caused excruciating amounts of pain down my left leg and numbness in my left foot. As the pain subsided, I thought i was healing but didn't realize the serverity of the ruptured disc until I was seen at the neuroscience clinic and found out that I had lost the ability to tippie toe on my left foot. Compression of the nerve had caused weakness in my left foot and since I was showing neurological signs my doctor wanted to get me into surgery A.S.A.P.. They made a small incision in my lower back and dropped a camera in, then vaporized the disc using a laser. This kind of surgery was minimally invasive and I was able to leave the hospital that night after being there for 12 hours. Everything went well and I'm a bit sore where the incision is.... but getting better! Motherhood sure is dangerous!Thursday, July 30, 2009
